Ireland won the toss and opted to bowl first on a pitch which looked to help bowlers early in inning. Azhar Ali and Sharjeel Khan opened the batting for visitors, Sharjeel looked in fine form but Azhar Ali departed early adding just 1 run to the total after facing 12 balls.
Sharjeel Khan continued hitting balls out of the boundary rope and played fabulous knock of 152 runs off just 86 balls at strike rate of around 176. In his inning, he hit 16 fours and 9 massive sixes which means total of 118 runs was scored in boundary. He had chance to play big but Barry McCarthy stopped him when he was caught by c Niall O’Brien.
In the end, Mohammad Nawaz and experienced Shoib Malik did the rest to take teams total to 337 runs. Both scored half-century former scored 50-balls 53 while later scored at fast pace 37-balls 57 runs.
Barry McCarthy was successful bowlers for Ireland who picked four wickets for 62 runs. Tim Murtagh though he took only one wicket he was economical of all conceding only 38 runs in 10 overs. Rest of the bowlers gave away too many runs which made target difficult.
Chasing the target of 338 runs, Paul Stirling was sent back when Ireland’s score was nil. Umar Gul and Imad Wasim destroyed Irish batting line-up and folded them to just 82 runs. Gary Wilson remained highest scorer for Ireland who scored 21 runs and Andy McBrine with 14 runs was second highest scorer of the inning.
Imad Wasim performance in Natwest T20 Blast 2016 has been good and he continued his good form here for good cause. He picked five wickets while Umar Gul managed three wickets to his name.
