[sc name=”top” ]

National Performance Squad and South Africa A are ready to face each other once again for 3rd Place play-off after duo played final league match of “A” Team Quadrangular One-Day Series, Australia where South Africa A thumped NPS comprehensively by 5 wickets. This encounter is a great opportunity for NPS to compensate loss incurred at the hands of visitors.

Fixture: NPS vs South Africa A, 3rd Place / NPS vs RSA A
Time/Date: 05:00 AM IST/ 11:30 PM GMT/ 09:30 AM LOCAL/ 03 Sep
Venue: Ray Mitchell Oval, Harrup Park, Mackay

National Performance Squad finished last in the points table with two wins out of six excluding one match which was washed-out due to rain. NPS started this tournament with back to back win South Africa A and Australia A but they failed to carry on momentum and they failed in next four matches which included one abandoned encounter.

They lost their last match against same opponent by 5 wicket despite posting 287 runs on the board. Caleb Paul Jewell (94-balls 62) and Sam Heazlett (63-balls 73) scored half-century and added together 117 runs to give their middle order solid platform for big total. Caleb Paul Jewell though was slow in his inning but NPS needed one players to continue at one end.

Bowlers did pretty well while defending but partnership between David Miller and Qasim Adams for 91 runs took the game away. However fall of Qasim Adams and then Andile Phehlukwayo may have spread joy in NPS camp but David Miller’s presence in the middle was always threatening. Matthew Short and Kyle Gardiner took two wickets each while Hilton Cartwright managed one wicket.

Meanwhile, South Africa A managed to stay one spot ahead of their opponent courtesy last match win against same team by 5 wickets which gave them four points jump. Confidence will be high in Proteas confidence after last match win, thanks to David Miller who smashed fantastic century and remained unbeaten at 124 runs of 104 balls.

Openers have not been able to deliver and most of the work have been done by Qasim Adams and David Miller though Theunis de Bruyn helped his team clinch a game against Australia A on 19th August when he scored unbeaten half-century. So, opener needs to understand their responsibility and give a solid start for middle order batting line-up.

Momentum surely is in favor of visitors but NPS is tough team to beat on the day. So, an interesting encounter is waiting at Ray Mitchell Oval, Harrup Park, Mackay.
