Bangaldesh lock horns with Afghanistan in 50-overs format

Bangladesh is ready to host Afghanistan three match ODI series for the first time. All three matches will be played at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka with first One-Day International scheduled on 25 September (Sunday). This series provides Afghanistan to showcase their talent against a test playing nation and improve as a unit.

Afghanistan and Bangladesh have met earlier thrice on international level, two times in 50-over format while once in T20I. Afghanistan have tasted win against host when they defeated them in Asia Cup 2014 though lost in 2014 World T20. Recently they met in ICC World Cup 2015 where host defeated Afghanistan by huge margin of 105 runs.

Afghanistan have performed reasonably good in recent past, they won One-Day International series against Zimbabwe. Biggest positive they got from the series was their opening stand, Mohammad Shehzad shown how destructive he can be in the middle.

Visitors have included three

uncapped players in the squad namely Ihsanullah, Karim Janat and Naveen-ul-Haq which is a bold move from selectors. Also their experience unit including Noor Ali Zadran, Javed Ahmadi, Hamid Hassan and Shapoor Zadran have been not been selected for this tour.

On the other hand, Bangladesh had fabulous last year when they won ODI series against Pakistan, India and South Africa which certainly boost their energy level and excitement to perform at international level. Mustafizur Rehman, also known as “The Fizz!” played crucial role in Bangladesh success.

Host have good batting unit including experienced Tamim Iqbal who is responsible to perform top of the order along with Soumya Sarkar. Shakib Al Hasan has always been important part of the team due his all round ability, he is only wicket away from registering himself as leading wicket taker for Bangladesh in all three format. Shakib is Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker in Test and T20 with 147 and 65 wickets respectively.
