Bangladesh and Afghanistan battle in series decider
Afghanistan came back strongly to level the three-match One-Day International series 1-1 and create chances for themselves to win series when they lock horns with Bangladesh at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday (01 October). Pakistan, India and South Africa failed in ODI series recently but Afghanistan have great opportunity to do what trio couldn’t do it for themselves.
Afghanistan comes into last ODI brimming with confidence they earned defeating host in second game by 2 wickets. Though margin of defeat is not big still they shown big heart and plenty of confidence chasing target of 209 runs against experience bowling attack.
Target of 209 runs looked dependable with Shakib Al Hasan and Taskin Ahmed in bowling attack but Afghanistan evaded all tough moments to level the series. Visitors might have put themselves in bothering situation when they were four wickets down at 63 runs but partnership between Mohammad Nabi (61-balls 49) and Asghar Stanikzai (95-balls 57) helped struggling Afghanistan recover. Najibullah Zadran’s handy innings of 22 runs in the end took Afghanistan to victory.
Much of the credits goes to visitors bowling attack who restricted host to small total of 208 runs. Mohammad Nabi amazing spell of 10 overs conceded only 16 runs for two wickets and he remained most economical bowler. Mirwais Ashraf gave visitors early breakthrough removing Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar while Rashid Khan took three wickets including wicket of Sabbir Rahman.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh would be disappointed with their performance in second game and they will be keen to go out and clinch series. Bowling have been good for host with Shakib Al Hasan leading the attack and Taskin Ahmed has been superb at crucial moments. Only concern for them is their batting, batsman have got start but failed to convert in big innings.
Mosaddek Hossain Saikat had awesome debut, he bailed his team out of pressure and helped to post descent total with his brilliant inning of 45 runs off 45 balls. Also, he proved crucial with ball because he broke partnership between Nabi and Asghar Stanikzai which looked threatening but in the end effort from rookie was not enough.
We have a cracking decider on our hands that will be played on Saturday (1 October) at Shere Bangla National Stadium where two teams will battle out for series win.
