South Africa ready to host Ireland in first One-Day International of a short tour involving Australia. Ireland are scheduled to play one ODI each with South Africa and Australia before host start their battle with Australia in five-match One-Day International series starting on 30 September, 2016. This is an opportunity for Ireland to compete against big teams and showcase their talent globally.

South Africa will take this opportunity to try out their players and find a settled playing 11 before they start their campaign against Australia. AB de Villiers decided to give himself rest ahead of series with Australia to recuperate sufficiently from an elbow injury.

Faf du Plessis will take over the captaincy for game against Ireland on Sunday (25 September). Host also recalled explosive middle-order batsman David Miller following impressive displays on the A tour of Australia. Miller averaged 110 from six innings, scoring a hundred and two fifties in South Africa A’s third-place finish in quadrangular one-day cup.

Wayne Parnell will lead fast bowling attack along with Kagiso Rabada in absence of experienced Chris Morris who was ruled out due to knee injury. Aaron Phangiso will be crucial in spin department with Jean-Paul Duminy who has contributed with ball at crucial moments.

Ireland, suffering poor form. They lost 2-match T20I series to Hong Kong earlier this month though second match was abandoned due to rain. Hong Kong got better of first match defeating favorites by 40 runs. They were also defeated comprehensively when Pakistan visited Ireland for two-match One-Day International series. Pakistan won first match by huge margin of 255 runs and second game was washed out due to rain.

Ireland have players who can win matches for Ireland, William Porterfield, Paul Sterling and Ed Joyce needs to take responsibility at the top and provide solid start for middle order. Ireland had suffered collapse in batting line-up, so they need to rectify to perform against high ranked teams.

Barry McCarthy will be expecetd to perform in bowling department along with Tim Murtagh. Kevin O’Brien has always been valuable all-rounder for Ireland because of his ability to perform with bat as well as ball. He will look to comeback to form in this series because he has not scored in recent past.
