Melbourne Renegades will take on defending champions in their opening match of sixth season of Big Bash League on Thursday (22 December, 2016) at Docklands Stadium, Melbourne. Renegades will look to make a positive start while Sydney Thunder will look to register their first win after losing their opener against Sydney Sixers.

Melbourne Renegades didn’t had good last season as they finished fifth and managed to win only three matches out of their eight league games. This time they have drafted in wrist-spinner spinner Brad Hogg who has the ability to deceive batsmen and veteran Sunil Narine in their bowling unit.

Chris Gayle, surely be missed throughout the tournament but explosive Aron Finch has power to light up the atmosphere. Cameron White, is someone you can trust when team is in trouble because he has the ability to play with calm and also he can go big when needed.

Dwayne Bravo, he possesses a clever array of slower balls and he is leading wicket-taker in T20 history. He don’t only contribute with ball, his batting skill is also commendable when it comes to shorter format of cricket.

Meanwhile, Sydney Thunder seeks comeback after 9 wicket loss to Sixers in their last match. They were outplayed, bowlers didn’t looked effective as Sixers chased down target of 160 runs with 9 wickets remaining and two over still to be bowled.

Ryan Gibson, scored 53 runs off 43 balls to hold one end while other end saw wickets falling regularly. However, Pat Cummins played handy inning of 30 runs of 20 balls to give Thunder a decent total. Eoin Morgan (19 balls 26) was expected to show some resistance but his fire-works couldn’t last long.

Thunder have made two changes into the squad, Kerrod White and all-rounder Arjun Nair have been included into the side for this game.
