There have been drastic advancement in technology over last few year right from smartphones to smart watches to new concept like Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). Addition later two have attracted great deal of interest but people still be confused between these two platform.
Lets see what sets them apart:
1) Virtual Reality (AR) comes, naturally, from the definitions for both ‘virtual’ and ‘reality’. The definition of ‘virtual’ is near and reality is what we experience as human beings. It creates a virtual world without affecting our real world. Meanwhile, Augmented Reality is blend of virtual reality and real life where the users physically move as the platform simply ‘augments’ our current state of presence.
2) Augmented Reality embeds digital information in real world while Virtual Reality mimics real world.
3) In Augmented Reality, people are able to interact with contents in real world and they are actually able to make difference between two but in Virtual Reality everything is virtual and user has no connection with the location they are in virtually.
4) Some popular examples of AR platforms are games like Pokemon Go, Zombies run and Parallel Kingdom and e-commerce apps like IKEA. Examples of Virtual Reality are videos that have a certain format, or video games. All of these VR media can only be seen through headsets/goggles that companies like Samsung, OnePlus and Oculus Rift have manufactured.
Virtual reality is the creation of a virtual world s in such a way that we feel if we were actually there. It uses a host of technologies to achieve this goal and is a technically complex feat that has to account for our perception and cognition. It has both entertainment and serious uses. The technology is becoming cheaper and more widespread. We can expect to see many more innovative uses for the technology in the future.
