England aims to stretch winning streak in series decider

England outplayed South Africa in first game at The Rose Bowl in Southampton on 21 June (Wednesday) to lead three-match series 1-0. Problem don’t seems to be easing for visitors, earlier disappointing exit from Champions Trophy and now on the verge of losing series.

England won first twenty20 match easily by 9 wickets with 33 balls to spare. Chasing the below par score of 142 runs Jason Roy and Hales gave host flying start. Duo added 45 runs in 4.1 overs before Roy was caught in-front of wickets by Andile Phehlukwayo.

In-form Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales remained unbeaten at 60 and 47 runs respectively to achieve the set target. They didn’t allow visitors to comeback at any stage of game.

Neither batting nor bowling worked for AB de Villier and co. Opting to bat first they got off to poor start. JJ Smuts and Reeza Hendricks didn’t had good outing with former sent back at cipher while later could add only 3 runs.

AB de Villers was Joined by explosive batsman for some repairing wok. Miller looked in fine nick but brilliant ball from Mark Wood had the last laugh. It looked very difficult to hit balls beyond the boundary in middle over however some fire-works from AB de Villiers (65 runs off 58 balls) and Farhaan Behardien (64 of 54 balls) in last 4 overs helped men in green to reach 142 runs.

All visitors needed was early breakthrough but bowlers failed to live up to the expectation and eventually it was an easy win for host. Andile Phehlukwayo was successful bowler with lone wicket of Jason Roy in fifth over.

Second game in Taunton is do or die encounter for visitors otherwise not only they lose this series, also offer themselves for whitewash. South Africa needs to excel in all department if they hope to save this series on English soil.
